What are the advantages of breast augmentation with autologous fat?

Breast augmentation with autologous fat

"My breasts could be a bit bigger." Many women are dissatisfied with the appearance and especially the size of their breasts. They want more volume and a more beautiful, voluptuous cleavage. For this reason, breast augmentation has become a routine procedure in aesthetic plastic surgery. Silicone implants are usually used to enlarge the breasts. However, the alternative of adding volume with autologous fat is becoming increasingly popular. We explain the advantages of this method in this article.

Procedure for breast augmentation with autologous fat

Breast augmentation with autologous fat is the natural alternative to breast augmentation with implants. Three stages are carried out for this purpose.

1. liposuction
The areas from which excess fat can be removed are defined in advance. Usually the abdomen, hips or thighs/breeches are selected. A saline solution similar to body fluid and a local anaesthetic are injected into the corresponding area. This prepares the fat cells so that they can then be suctioned out more easily and gently using a cannula.

2. preparation of the extracted fat
The fat cells obtained by liposuction are specially prepared for implantation in the breast area.

3. breast augmentation by injection
The prepared fat cells are injected into the subcutaneous tissue of the breast and under the pectoral muscle in a fan shape using ultra-fine cannulas - in other words, precisely in the areas required for the desired shape and size.

Advantages of lipofilling on the breast

Unlike breast augmentation with implants, lipofilling does not require any surgical intervention other than liposuction. No access needs to be created in the breast as no implant is inserted. For this reason, virtually no scars remain, as only minimal incisions need to be made for the cannulas. As a result, this procedure is also associated with significantly less pain in the breast area.

Allergic reactions or rejection of the "foreign body" can be ruled out, as the fat cells are your body's own material. This means that the result is also very natural in appearance and tactile sensation. The consistency of the breast does not change after augmentation with autologous fat, as it is the same material that is already present in the breast. The breasts therefore move naturally.

A pleasant side effect: the liposuction that is also performed means that two treatments are carried out in one - breast augmentation and liposuction. The result of both together is an optimisation and harmonisation of the entire body silhouette.

Breast lipofilling is particularly suitable for women who want a gentle breast augmentation but are unsure about the size. The breast can be enlarged by around half a cup size with a one-off procedure. This corresponds to an average increase of 100 to 150 millilitres per breast. If a woman then wants a little more, the same amount of fat can be added in a repeat procedure after a corresponding waiting period of approx. 3 months. However, around 40 per cent of the fat cells injected will break down again, leaving a permanent result.
