Straightening the nose: how to straighten a crooked nose

Straighten nose

A harmonious nose shape plays an important role in beauty. It characterises the attractiveness of the face and contributes to the overall appeal. The nose is also part of the overall impression and gives the face a certain balance. An aesthetic nose shape can boost a person's self-confidence and make them feel good about themselves. If the nose is disproportionate and does not fit in well with the face, this can cause insecurity. This can be the case with a crooked nose, for example. Such a nose shape can bring disharmony to the face and possibly even impair breathing. The solution is surgery: as part of the Rhinoplasty we can straighten the nose. In our Clinic in Weert we have extensive experience in such interventions.

What is a crooked nose and how does it develop?

A crooked nose is an anomaly in the shape of the nose in which either the nasal bone or the nasal cartilage has an asymmetrical structure. As a result, the nose deviates from its intended vertical alignment and tilts either to the right or left, sometimes in an S-shaped contour. This leads to a visual imbalance, particularly when viewed from the front.

There are many causes of a crooked nose. The shape of the nose can be congenital. However, it can also develop in the course of life, e.g. due to accidents or injuries such as nasal bone fractures. In such cases, the bones can grow together incorrectly and thus cause a crooked nose. A curved nasal septum can also be the cause and cause additional breathing difficulties.

Straightening the nose: Restoration of a beautiful, straight shape through surgical intervention

In order to correct both aesthetic and functional impairments, we offer the option of straightening a crooked nose with a rhinoplasty. Before the procedure, we will provide you with comprehensive information about the various options and the rhinoplasty procedure.

You will be given a general anaesthetic for the rhinoplasty. During the surgical procedure, we straighten the bony bridge of the nose and/or adjust your nasal septum. To do this, we first make a small incision in the anterior nasal septum. We then separate the overlying mucosal tissue. This allows us to correct your septum. In some cases, it may be necessary to use additional cartilage tissue, for example from your pinna. This allows us to support the desired change in shape and prevent the bridge of the nose from sagging.

We then cut the bones of the nasal pyramid at the sides and shape them into the desired form. This serves to restore a straight centre line. In the final step, we insert special support elements to ensure optimal healing. We remove these support elements after about two weeks.
