Eyelid lift

During the consultation, you will discuss with your treating doctor who will perform the eyelid lift or eyelid correction. There will be enough time to discuss all your questions about the treatment, the best method, the result, the risks and aftercare. Firstly, your general state of health will be clarified. For example, we will ask you about any existing illnesses and previous operations etc. It is very important that you answer these questions truthfully and in detail so that we can assess whether you are suitable for an eyelid lift or eyelid correction. Finally, you will receive additional information on pre- and post-operative care as well as interim and final check-ups. If you decide in favour of an eyelid correction or eyelid lift, all the details and information discussed will be recorded in a treatment agreement. This will be signed by both you and us. This is required by law.

Eyelid lift treatment

On the day of your eyelid correction, you will be seen half an hour before the operation in the Clinic expected. An eyelid lift takes a maximum of 60 minutes and is performed under local anaesthetic. For very anxious patients, the treatment can also be carried out under general anaesthetic or we can give you a sedative.

Before the doctor begins the procedure, photos are taken of your upper and lower eyelids. The excess skin is marked and the eyelids are then anaesthetised. The adrenaline in the anaesthetic causes the blood vessels to constrict, thus limiting bleeding. The wounds are sutured and small adhesive plasters are also applied.

Most eyelid corrections or eyelid lifts are performed at the Acura Clinic using a laser to make incisions and tighten the subcutaneous (subcutaneous cell tissue) muscles. The doctor uses microsurgical techniques and magnifying glasses with 3.5x magnification.
During an upper eyelid lift, both the excess skin and, if present, fatty tissue are removed. The small scars are located in the natural crease of the upper eyelid. The wounds are sutured and small adhesive plasters are also applied.

To correct the lower eyelid, an incision is made along the edge of the eyelashes, excess skin and fatty tissue are removed and the wound is sutured with a thin suture. The small scars are located under the eyelashes. After the procedure, we will take you to the recovery room where you can rest and have a drink.

Eyelid lift with laser

We have deliberately opted for laser eyelid lifting as this method offers many advantages. The laser is used both as a cutting tool and as a vaporisation technique for the wrinkles on the eyelid. This means that we have to remove less skin and the muscle in the eyelid is tightened.

With an eyelid lift or eyelid correction using the laser procedure, there are fewer complications and the healing process is significantly faster. The final result is finer and more beautiful than with conventional surgery. Sometimes, however, the choice in favour of a conventional eyelid correction is necessitated by the type of skin and the degree of sagging.

Transconjunctival eyelid correction | removing bags under the eyes

If there is no sagging of the skin but only bags under the eyes, transconjunctival eyelid correction may be a suitable treatment. A small incision is made on the inside of the eyelid. The incision, and therefore the scar, is no longer visible after the treatment. An important advantage is that it is not necessary to cut through muscle to remove the fat. This lower eyelid correction method is usually performed on younger patients who only suffer from bags under the eyes. This eyelid correction method does not tighten the skin, but merely reduces the bags under the eyes. The treatment leaves no visible scars.

Regeneration

Your eyelids are cooled with ice packs or ice pads immediately after the eyelid correction. In some cases, you will be prescribed eye drops with physiological saline solution (NaCl) or methylcellulose. You must not drive after the procedure as you will be bandaged around the eye and your field of vision will be restricted. We recommend that you do not spend the first night after the procedure alone.

In principle, you will have little pain after the procedure. However, pain may occur for 24 hours after the eyelid correction so that painkillers (paracetamol 500mg) are required. Bruising may occur under your eyes, but you can cover this with make-up. The thin skin of the eyelids usually heals very quickly. If necessary, use an extra pillow at night so that your head is higher - this helps to reduce swelling.

Please do not wear contact lenses for 10-14 days after your eyelid correction or eyelid lift. Avoid heavy physical exertion for the first 3 weeks after the procedure (do not lift heavier than 5kg). The incision line may still be reddened in the first few months, but will gradually lighten. One and a half to three months after the procedure, the scars are almost invisible. We recommend that you always wear a Sun cream with a minimum sun protection factor of 20. You will come to the clinic for a check-up 5 to 7 days after the procedure. If the wounds have healed well, the stitches will be removed.

Risks and complications of an eyelid lift

With an eyelid lift, as with most surgical procedures, there is a risk of an allergic reaction to the anaesthetic, disinfectant or adhesive plaster. Despite the fact that the operating theatre is sterile, an infection can occur. However, the probability of infection is very low. There is a small risk of wound healing disorders or bleeding, but these have no negative consequences for the final result of the eyelid correction and eyelid lift. With an eyelid lift, you do not need to worry about damaging your eye. The probability is very low. Sometimes the skin pulls tighter than desired after the procedure - but we can usually remedy this with a small correction.

Although the treatment is planned and carried out in great detail, it can sometimes be difficult to achieve an exactly symmetrical result. Our doctors are very familiar and experienced with this surgical technique, but cannot guarantee the final result.

My colleagues have often asked me about my deep dark circles. They told me I should sleep more and worry less. Personally, I knew that I had always suffered from them. First my brother, then my sister and now me!
The ageing of a person is probably largely genetic. I have 2 brothers and 2 sisters and we all (except 1 brother) have these annoying drooping eyelids. The treatment prices are almost half the price of many other clinics and are considered the best. In short, I quickly scheduled a treatment and am very happy with the results.
