Our eyebrows have different functions: They protect the eye from dirt and sweat and in this way support the eyelashes in their function. However, eyebrows are not only important from an anatomical point of view, but also for facial expressions and gestures: we can express our emotions by raising or drawing our eyebrows together. They are also a factor that defines our individual look and therefore make a decisive contribution to the appearance and aesthetics of the face.
While eyebrows used to be plucked as thinly and precisely as possible, today they can be "a little more". But what if the brows have not grown evenly and there are gaps? An eyebrow transplant can create harmony here. Find out more in this article.
When is an eyebrow transplant necessary?
There are various reasons when an eyebrow transplant makes sense:
- Eyebrow loss
Eyebrows usually grow for ten weeks and then fall out to make room for the new hairs. However, it is possible for this cycle to be disrupted: hormonal changes, thyroid dysfunction, metabolic disorders, skin diseases or allergies can cause the eyebrows to fall out. Fungal infections, poisoning, vitamin and nutrient deficiencies or unwanted side effects of medication or chemotherapy can also cause the hairs above the eye to fall out. Stress and psychological tension often also cause the Hair loss. - Overplucking
Long-term and very intensive plucking of the eyebrows often leads to stagnation of eyebrow growth. This can lead to partial or even complete and permanent loss of the eyebrows. In addition to the natural appearance, the important protective function for the eyes is also lost. This increases the risk of eye diseases. - Congenital sparse eyebrows
Some people also have naturally occurring bald patches or irregular hair growth above the eye. In this case, it is a small hereditary blemish.
Regardless of the reason, an eyebrow transplant can repair, correct, thicken and model defective eyebrows. The procedure can restore a harmonious and aesthetic look.
How does an eyebrow transplant work?
Eyebrow transplants are performed in a similar way to hair transplants using the FUE method.
The first step is to discuss the shape of your brows. In a minor procedure, we use a hollow needle to remove individual hairs from the back of your head after you have been anaesthetised. These are then implanted into the eyebrows using small incisions. That's all there is to it!
The transplanted hair usually falls out after about 2 weeks and then starts to grow again after three months. The final result is achieved after around 6 to 12 months.
