Quality in the Netherlands

Highest quality standards - guaranteed!

Hygiene at the Acura Clinic

All our treatment facilities, equipment and other resources fulfil the strict requirements of the Healthcare Inspectorate in the Netherlands. This is regularly checked as part of quality assurance and reported through internal inspections. Acura's operating theatre is extensively inspected and tested several times a year. Samples are taken from the ventilation system, tested and analysed.

Acura works with an independent hospital hygienist (Hip Advies) and a certified instance (Telstar-LUWA), which carry out these checks. The sterilisation of instruments and devices is outsourced to the central sterilisation department of the Catharinaziekenhuis in Eindhoven. These facilities are in turn subject to regular inspections by the health authorities, so that quality is always guaranteed here too.

Legislation in the Netherlands

The quality assurance of clinics in the Netherlands is determined by various laws and regulations.

Healthcare Quality Act

This law obliges clinics to systematically and structurally pay attention to quality. The clinic must be geared towards providing appropriate care. This means that care must be effective and efficient, patient-orientated and tailored to actual needs. Every clinic is obliged to carry out quality assurance and also to publish an annual quality report.

Law on medical treatment

This law regulates a number of rights and obligations of the medical practitioner and the patient. The right to information about the treatment is the most important. The doctor is obliged to inform you about the type of treatment, the rules to be followed after the treatment, possible risks, alternatives and the expected outcome. Furthermore, this law establishes the right of access to medical records, the right to consent to treatment and the right to privacy and confidentiality.

General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

The GDPR contains detailed regulations for companies and organisations regarding the collection, storage, and processing of personal data. For this, we have a separate privacy policy.

Patient Rights (Complaints in Healthcare) Act

This law requires clinics to establish a formal procedure for handling complaints. A complaint can be lodged with the complaints commission regarding a healthcare provider's behaviour or the behaviour of individuals acting on their behalf.

The Commission shall deal with the complaint on the basis of a complaints procedure, which must be made available to the patient.

The Healthcare Quality, Complaints, and Disputes Act (Wkkgz)

This law aims to ensure that everyone receives high-quality care, that facilities continuously work on improvements, and that the patient is placed more firmly at the centre.

In the Wkkgz, safety is paramount. A patient must be able to rely on safe treatment. To ensure this, the law contains various requirements. To guarantee good and safe care, a healthcare provider must systematically monitor, manage, and continuously improve the quality of care.

The central objectives of the Wkkgz are:

  • Secure supply and high quality
  • a low-threshold and transparent handling of complaints
  • Clear and understandable information for patients

Good supply

The core of the Wkkgz is the concept of „good care“. The law requires healthcare facilities to ensure high-quality, high-standard care. This is understood as care that is:

  • which in any case is safe, effective, appropriate, and patient-centred, is provided in a timely manner, and is tailored to the actual needs of the patient
  • healthcare professionals acting in accordance with their professional responsibility and applicable professional standards
  • where the rights of the patient are carefully safeguarded and the patient is treated with respect

The hygiene

All treatment facilities, materials, and equipment comply with the strict requirements of the health inspectorate. This is regularly checked and documented through internal audits.

Acura's operating theatre undergoes comprehensive checks several times a year. During these checks, microbiological samples are taken and the air treatment systems are inspected and validated.

Acura is working with an independent hospital hygienist for this purpose (Hip Advies) and with a certifying body (Telstar-LUWAtogether.

The sterilisation of instruments and materials is outsourced to the central sterilisation department of CSA Services. This department, in turn, is subject to regular inspection by the health authority, thus ensuring the quality of its services.
