Non-surgical face lift: modern treatments for a fresher appearance

Non-surgical face lift

A refreshed look is not achieved through sleep alone. Over the years, the interplay between skin, connective tissue, fat pads and musculature changes. The cheeks lose fullness, the jawline appears less defined and wrinkles become more prominent. Many women and men notice these changes in the mirror, but do not (yet) want to have a surgical facelift. Modern aesthetic treatments now offer several options to improve skin structure, compensate for volume loss and make facial contours appear fresher. You can read about the available procedures and what they can achieve below.

Why skin and tissue lose their firmness over time

As we age, the skin and tissue change across several layers. As a result, the face gradually loses its firmness, fullness, and defined contours.

  • Less collagen
The structural protein forms the supportive framework of the skin. As collagen production decreases, the skin loses firmness and appears less stable.
  • Decreasing elasticity
Elastin ensures that the skin contracts again after movement or stretching. When this elasticity diminishes, the skin becomes looser and is also more subject to gravity.
  • Lower moisture retention
Over the years, the body's own hyaluronic acid levels decrease. The skin retains less moisture, appearing thinner, drier, and less plump.
  • Slower cell renewal
The skin no longer renews itself as quickly as it did in your youth. As a result, the surface often appears duller, fine lines become more pronounced and the skin texture changes.
  • Weaker connective tissue
The support structures between the skin, fatty tissue and deeper tissue layers lose stability. The tissue receives less support and can shift downwards.
Optical effects of natural ageing processes: How decreasing tissue stability manifests in the face

When supporting structures weaken and facial fat pads change, this usually shows first in the midface. The cheeks lose volume, tissue shifts downwards, and nasolabial folds become more prominent. At the same time, the face often loses defined contours.

The jawline also changes over time. Due to sagging tissue in the lower face, the jawline can appear softer. Small excesses of tissue frequently form on the chin and lower jaw, colloquially known as jowls.

Overall, this often makes the face look less V-shaped and „heavier“ or wider in the lower third. This impression is created by the interaction of volume loss, decreasing tissue stability, and sagging fat tissue.

A surgical face-lift is not always necessary: which methods are suitable for a face-lift without surgery?

Not every facial change automatically requires surgery. When skin and tissue lose their firmness, many patients certainly wish for a fresher and firmer appearance, but (still) do not want a surgical treatment. Exactly for this purpose, various non-surgical procedures are available today. Depending on the initial finding, they can improve skin quality, compensate for volume loss, stimulate collagen production or harmonise slight loss of contour.

In our Clinic for Aesthetic and Plastic Surgery in Weert near the German border we offer various procedures for non-surgical face-lifts. These include:

Thread lifting

When descended tissue alters the facial contours, thread lifting offers a way to lift selected areas without surgically tightening the skin. To do this, we introduce special, self-dissolving threads beneath your skin using a fine cannula via small puncture points. An incision, a larger wound area or the surgical removal of excess skin are not necessary.

Initially, the threads provide the tissue with more support and can make cheeks, the jawline or mild jowls appear more defined. In addition, they stimulate the body's own collagen production. As a result, the tissue structure can continue to improve over the following months.

As a non-surgical face lift, the procedure is particularly suitable for patients who are affected by initial to moderate tissue laxity.

Fractional laser

Fine lines, enlarged pores, sun damage or an uneven skin surface often make the face look older, even though the contours are still relatively stable. In such cases, fractional laser treatment can be a sensible addition to non-surgical face-lifting. The fractional laser does not involve incisions and does not remove excess skin. Instead, it delivers many fine laser pulses into the skin, treating only selected micro-areas of the surface.

These controlled impulses stimulate the skin's natural regeneration. The skin produces new collagen, the structure can become refined and the surface appears smoother and more even over time.

The treatment does not actively lift sagging tissue, but improves skin firmness and skin quality. This makes it particularly suitable when a fresher, smoother complexion is the main priority.

Wrinkle treatment with botulinum toxin and fillers

A non-surgical face lift does not always mean that only sagging tissue is lifted. The older or tired appearance is often caused by several factors at once: expression lines, a loss of volume and an altered distribution of tension in the face. Botulinum toxin and fillers can target these at different points.

Expression lines form through repeated muscle movements, for example on the forehead, glabella or eye area. Botulinum toxin relaxes selected muscle groups, which can make facial expressions appear calmer and more refreshed. Hyaluronic acid-based fillers compensate for lost fullness and can better support certain areas again. In particular, the cheeks, temples, nasolabial folds or jawline can be structured more harmoniously as a result.

Neither procedure replaces a surgical one Facelift and do not lift fallen tissue like a thread lift. However, they can help to make the face appear fresher, smoother and more balanced. As part of a non-surgical face lift, they are therefore particularly suitable when wrinkles, loss of volume and softer contours are to be treated together.

Non-surgicalfacelift:Complementarymeasuresfor skinqualityandfreshness

Not every treatment as part of a non-surgical facelift has to lift the tissue or restore volume. Sometimes, skin quality above all determines how fresh, smooth and vibrant a face appears. Fine lines, dry skin, enlarged pores, a dull complexion or pigment irregularities can significantly influence the overall impression.

We also offer various methods for this at the Acura Clinic. They do not improve tissue position, but they can refine the complexion and usefully support the results of other treatments.

Microneedling with the Dermapen™

For a natural-looking non-surgical face lift, skin texture plays an important role. Microneedling with the Dermapen™ stimulates skin renewal via numerous fine micro-channels. The skin responds to these controlled impulses with repair processes and produces increased amounts of collagen and elastin. As a result, the skin can appear smoother, with finer pores and a more even tone. Fine wrinkles or a tired-looking complexion can also be improved.

However, microneedling does not lift sunken tissue. The treatment is primarily suitable as a complement when the skin needs to gain more firmness, freshness and structure.

Mesotherapy

A vibrant facial expression is closely linked to moisture, skin density and radiance. This is precisely where mesotherapy comes in. During the procedure, we introduce selected active ingredients, such as moisturising or revitalising substances, into the upper layers of the skin using fine injections. As a result, the skin can appear better hydrated, fresher and gain luminosity. Mesotherapy can improve the overall appearance, particularly in the case of dry, dull or tired-looking skin. It can be a useful complement to a non-surgical face lift if the skin is to look healthier and more vital overall.

Chemical peelings

An uneven complexion can increase the appearance of skin ageing, even with firm contours. Chemical peels promote the renewal of the skin's surface and remove dead skin cells in a controlled manner. Depending on the peel, they can improve pigment irregularities, fine lines, enlarged pores or a rough skin texture.

As a result, the face often appears clearer, smoother and more even. Peels are not suitable as a standalone treatment for sagging tissue or volume loss. However, as a complementary measure, they can help to visually refine the result of a non-surgical face lift and make the skin appear fresher.

When is a non-surgical face lift sufficient and when is a surgical face lift more appropriate?

Non-surgical procedures are particularly suitable when early to moderate signs of skin and tissue ageing become visible. These include fine lines, decreasing skin firmness, slight jowls, incipient volume loss or softer contours in the cheek and jawline area. In such cases, a non-surgical face lift can make the face look fresher, smoother and more harmonious. Often, the combination of several methods achieves a particularly cohesive result, as threads, fillers, lasers or skin-improving treatments address different levels.

However, in cases of more pronounced skin excess, significantly sagging tissue, deep wrinkles, or a severely altered chin and neck contour, non-surgical treatments often reach their limits. A surgical facelift may be more appropriate when excess skin is to be removed, deeper tissue layers repositioned, and the contours tightened more comprehensively.

Which treatment matches your condition can only be assessed after a personal examination. At the Acuraklinik in Weert, we discuss with you which changes bother you, what result is realistic, and whether a non-surgical face lift is sufficient or a surgical face lift represents the better solution.
