Beautiful lips are sung about in many songs and are considered a very attractive and extremely sensual detail on a woman's face. They give the face the perfect expression, support facial expressions, gestures and emotions and are also something of an "accessory" that can be wonderfully emphasised with lipstick. But what should a woman's lips actually look like? Cosmetic surgeons from the USA have looked into this question and conducted a study. The results were published in the bi-monthly medical journal "JAMA Facial Plastic Surgery". We present the results in this article. We also inform you about the possibilities of lip augmentation.

The subject of the study was the perfect lips of white women aged between 18 and 25. The participants in the study were shown photos of women whose upper and lower lips had been altered using an image editing programme. On a scale from 1 (least attractive) to 10 (most attractive), the participants were asked to rate the images and lips.
This was followed by a second round: Here too, portraits had to be assessed. However, the upper and lower lips were alternately digitally reduced or enlarged for the pictures. Now the perfect ratio had to be determined.
The researchers analysed all the responses and found that the most attractive lips for women were those with a 1:2 ratio of upper to lower lip. This means that the lower lip should at best be twice the size of the upper lip. According to the study, the surface area of the lips should still take up 10 per cent of the lower third of the face.
Is this information too theoretical for you? Examples of lips that are considered perfect are those of Miranda Kerr or Alessandra Ambrosio.
But now the following question arises: Is this result actually realistic? Probably not - because every person looks different and has their own individual features and proportions. This also means that every woman is best suited to a different lip shape.
For this reason, the study results should not be generalised.

What is a fact, however: Not every woman naturally has exactly the well-shaped lip that suits her best.
