Who should have a facelift?

Facelift - Acura Clinic Weert

There are many signs that the body is beginning to age. Some of these are particularly evident in the skin. The visual ageing process begins as early as the mid to late 20s. Over time, the deeper connective tissue becomes flabbier, making the skin appear less elastic. Wrinkles appear on the face and neck. This ageing process does not happen at the same speed for everyone. While person A develops wrinkles earlier, person B may look fresh and youthful for much longer. Anyone who is bothered by their wrinkles and is looking for information on anti-ageing measures often comes across the firming Facelift. But is this surgical facelift suitable for everyone? When does this procedure make sense?

Before the plastic surgery: comprehensive information

If you want to undergo a facelift, you should inform yourself in detail and also obtain comprehensive information from your chosen surgeon. We at the Acura clinic inform you thoroughly about the pre-treatment, the operation and post-treatment before the facelift and any other treatment/surgery.

Facelift: When is a facelift useful?

A facelift should only be performed when it is really appropriate. We recommend not having a facelift performed at too young an age. As a rule (it depends on the individual case, of course!), a facelift only makes sense from the age of around 45. If desired, the patient should resort to other wrinkle treatment measures beforehand. These can be, for example, injections of Toxin, Wrinkle injections with hyaluronic acid fillers or the Lipofilling (i.e. treatment with autologous fat). Also a Eyelid lift can already have a rejuvenating effect on drooping eyelids or bags under the eyes. We advise only having a facelift when the fatty tissue in the face has moved forwards and downwards. Only then will there be excess skin/tissue that can be surgically removed. At this point, other wrinkle treatments/wrinkle injections no longer help.

Facelift must be customised to the individual patient

The aim of a facelift is to rejuvenate the face and make it look as natural as possible. In order to achieve this effect, the facelift must be customised to the patient and adapted to their personal requirements. Our surgeons have various methods and techniques at their disposal, which can also be combined with each other (example: a facelift plus neck lift).

These points need to be clarified before the facelift

Before the procedure, it is important for our treating physicians to know whether you as a patient have already had other anti-ageing measures carried out to achieve a rejuvenating effect (e.g. Laser treatmentsinjections; at least 9 months should have passed after treatment with hyaluronic acid). This may mean that the technique for the tightening operation has to be adapted.

We advise our patients to take particularly good care of their facial skin a few weeks before the facelift. Extended sunbathing or visits to the solarium should therefore be avoided, as this can lead to sunburns. Care for your skin with a particularly high sun protection factor and wear a sun hat in summer.

It is also advisable not to smoke for three weeks before to three weeks after the procedure. Nicotine impairs the blood supply to the skin and can therefore have a detrimental effect on the results of the facelift. The same applies to alcohol.

You should also note that certain medications can lead to unforeseen bleeding during the operation. Please clarify with your doctor in advance whether you can stop taking these medications for the operation or, for example, switch to a different preparation.
