After an aesthetic plastic surgery procedure, you should give your body the time it needs to recover. Especially after a Facelift it is important to adhere to certain rules of behaviour in order to minimise the risk of complications and thus achieve the best possible optical result. In this article, we explain in detail what you should bear in mind.
Facelift: popular procedure for tightening sagging skin
Many patients who suffer from moderate to severe tissue sagging opt for one of the most popular cosmetic operations: the facelift. In this surgical procedure, the patient's skin, the underlying tissue and the muscle layer of the area to be treated are tightened. Care is taken to ensure that the patient's individual facial features are not significantly altered. The result is usually a clearly noticeable rejuvenation effect with a natural-looking, healthy, harmonious overall appearance.
Behaviour following a facelift
Immediately after the procedure, the treated areas are usually swollen. Temporary redness and bruising may also occur. Both are normal reactions of the body, which has to recover from the operation. The discomfort usually subsides within a few weeks.
Immediately after a facelift, it is important to keep your head as still as possible. You should avoid jerky movements and keep your head elevated when sleeping. In this way, swelling can be minimised. In most cases, the face is initially protected by a soft head bandage. The stitches are removed after about five to ten days. Sometimes stitches that dissolve on their own are also used. With this self-dissolving suture material, the stitches no longer need to be removed.
Facelift: support healing yourself
With these tips, patients can actively promote the healing process after a facelift:
- Strictly adhere to our recommended closed season and follow our behavioural advice! This also includes attending regular check-ups.
- Cool the treated area regularly! This can help any redness and swelling to subside more quickly. But be careful: cooling pads must not be too cold - it is best to wrap them in a cloth to avoid damaging your skin!
- Plan at least one week of rest before continuing with your usual routine!
- Lighter work activities can often be resumed after just one week. If you have a job that requires physical exertion, you will have to take a longer break (approx. two to three weeks). Please follow our rules of behaviour!
- After a facelift, you should refrain from sport for three weeks. After that you can become active again - in consultation with us.
- Do not stay in the blazing sun and do not go to the solarium for two to three months. Otherwise, the healing process could be affected and the scars could darken pigment.
