Couperose laser treatment: reduce visible veins and reddening of the skin

Couperose laser

Healthy facial skin that is perceived as beautiful has an even, fresh complexion. It looks clear, radiant and even. However, not every woman or man has such flawless skin. Many suffer from annoying, visible veins and redness on the face without really knowing what causes this and how to treat the problem. This is often couperose. If you are bothered by the reddish and bluish lines on your face, there are various treatments to combat the skin symptoms. At the Acura Clinic in Weert, we can laser couperose. We explain how this works below.

What is couperose?

Couperose is a skin condition characterised by visible, dilated blood vessels and redness in the skin. It usually affects the face, particularly the cheeks, nose, forehead and chin. The name couperose comes from the French and means "rose-coloured". The redness is caused by a permanent dilation of the smallest blood vessels (capillaries) in the skin. Over time, these lose their elasticity and no longer contract completely after dilation, e.g. due to heat or alcohol. This leads to permanent redness and visible veins on the face.

Couperose can be an early stage of another skin condition known as couperosis. Rosaceabe. This is a chronic skin disease that occurs in episodes and often causes redness as well as pustules or papules. It can cause swelling and thickening of the skin, especially around the nose. In later stages of rosacea, the eyes can also be affected, leading to symptoms such as dry, irritated or watery eyes.

Treating couperose: General options

Couperose is not harmful or life-threatening, but it can certainly be a cosmetic problem. There are various approaches that can help to improve the uneven skin appearance of couperose:

Cosmetics

A good Skin care is the first and most important step. Choose products specifically for sensitive skin to avoid irritation. There are also special make-up products that can conceal redness and nourish your skin at the same time. Our skin experts at our Acura clinic in Weert will be happy to advise you on cosmetic products that are suitable for your skin.

Sun protection

The sun's UV rays can worsen the symptoms of couperose. You should therefore always use a sunscreen with a high sun protection factor and wear a hat if you spend long periods in the sun.

Some renunciation

Spicy foods, alcohol, caffeine and extreme temperatures can increase the symptoms of couperose.

Couperose laser treatment: Skin improvement through laser treatment

The Treatment with the Nd:YAG laser is one of the most effective methods for treating couperose. We can use it to obliterate the protruding veins on your face. This works by using the laser to direct intense light energy in the form of small pulses or flashes onto the affected areas. The red blood cells absorb this light energy and convert it into heat. The heat destroys the dilated blood vessels without damaging the surrounding skin tissue. Your body breaks down the destroyed blood vessels as waste and disposes of them naturally. At the same time, the laser also promotes the production of collagen in your skin. This can speed up the healing process and further improve the overall appearance of your skin.

Couperose laser treatment: How many treatments does it take?

The number of treatments required depends on the size, nature and severity of your couperose. In general, most patients require between three and five sessions to achieve optimal results. Sessions are usually carried out at four to six week intervals to give your skin enough time to heal and rejuvenate.

Laser treatment for couperose: when do you see the first results?

After laser treatment for couperose, your skin may initially be reddened and slightly swollen. However, these side effects should subside after a few days to a week.

You can already see the first improvements after the first treatment. The red veins or bulging blood vessels may become lighter or, in some cases, disappear completely.

The final results are usually visible after a few weeks to a few months, after your body has had enough time to remove the damaged blood vessels and form new tissue.
